As the century came to a close, there was a great deal of anxiety in the United States as well as around the world. Would the Y2K bug cripple the world’s computers? Would terrorists try a strike as millions celebrated? Some cities, such as Seattle, shut down all celebrations in fear.

Not New York City.

New York hosted a global party with the famous Times Square tower counting down each time zone as it entered the new century. On televisions and on the street, millions watched as the cities of the planet erupted in joy and celebration. Our millennium fears turned to joy, as the world seemed to be united in hope for this new century.

Having spent the night in Times Square, the next morning I cruised around the empty streets of New York to photograph this first day of 2000. It was a beautiful clear day. We walked down and empty Wall Street, stared up at the quiet twin towers, and finally drove over to Brooklyn to get this famous shot of downtown, so common was this scene that I never bothered to print it.

I couldn't imagine that only 21 months later I would watch this view change forever.
Many argued about whether we entered the 21st Century on January 1, 2000 or January 1, 2001. They are both wrong. We entered the 21st Century on September 11, 2001.

Why am I selling these pictures now and why should you buy them?

I was born and raised directly across from New York City and watched the towers rise. I am in shock and pain as are most normal people over the demonic act that destroyed this landmark. (Please don't call it a tragedy - tragedies are accidents - this was a pure act of evil) I am saddened that TV shows and movies are pulling this view out of their products. We must keep this view in front of us, at all times, to keep our resolve as we enter a difficult period. The fire in our blood must not be allowed to cool until the evil that perpetrated this act is removed from the planet. Many of my customers felt the same way and asked me to please offer this print for sale.

The global unity that was felt that New Years night has returned, stronger than ever. We must support and strengthen this unity. We have the power to take this disaster and turn it into an opportunity.

NEVER FORGET!
