As
the century came to a close, there was a great deal of anxiety
in the United States as well as around the world. Would the Y2K
bug cripple the world’s computers? Would terrorists try a
strike as millions celebrated? Some cities, such as Seattle, shut
down all celebrations in fear.
Not New York City.
New York hosted a global party with the famous Times Square tower
counting down each time zone as it entered the new century. On
televisions and on the street, millions watched as the cities
of the planet erupted in joy and celebration. Our millennium fears
turned to joy, as the world seemed to be united in hope for the
new century
