Dolphin in wave

dolphin in wave

The crystal clear wave rose just offshore of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dana Point, Ca. In the space of less than a second this bootlenose dolphin jumped through the back of the wave, swam along its curved face and then disappeared.

This image captures the mystery of these intelligent creatures better than most. Although he was speeding though the breaking wave the camera caught him appearing motionless, an apparition, there and gone so fast that your eyes wonder if they had seen the moment at all.

It is unusual to see dolphins in this area but in February and March they seem to gather along the coast in the sheltered coves of Monarch Beach and at the end of Strands Beach, near the Dana Point Headlands, a rocky promontory point that has served as a beacon to whales and mariners alike for centuries. * NO compositing or digital enhancements have been made to this picture.
